A universal service order code, more commonly known in the industry as a USOC, is an identifying code used in telephony, such as for telephone equipment and calling features. USOCs were introduced by the Bell System in the 1970s[1]) as a standardized way of referring to service information within (and often between) telephone companies. While many of the most common USOCs are well-standardized and have a ubiquitous meaning, some USOCs have been introduced and are used regionally or locally by specific providers, such that the same feature may go by different USOCs between multiple companies.
