In recent years, access to public telecommunications facilities in airports and other transit centers has changed in several ways. Apart from an overall decline in public phones accessible to travelers, and payphones in particular, some airports now have courtesy phones that allow free local and toll-free calls, and in some cases, domestic long-distance calls. In some cases, assistance of the airport operator may be required.
